  Congregation gossip - Why so rampant?

  is is just me, or did every congregation have a big (as in greater than in the non jw world) problem with this?

  Thanks for your insight. The brothers and sisters my age were pretty good about protecting information about each others actions that could be damaging (drinking, drugs, porn and other sexual misconduct). The funny thing is how some would beat themselves up about reporting THEMSELVES. I remember staying up late one night discussing this with a very good friend of mine (still talk to him). As I was already inactive, I chose not to offer any advice, as my views and his were differing, and even in that state, I didn't want to be what JW's would consider a negative influence. I did wonder why if you had gotten away with something (and this happened to him before baptism). would you want to make an issue of it. Especially if you really were repentant in your heart?

  Pratt, Granny, and others who rightfully point out that JW's are not alone in gossip: How right that is. I experiance it daily at work. The distinction is that JW's not only preach against such behaviour, they ask you to examine all religions for fruits of the spirit. One of these is brotherly love. Gossiping is certainly contrary to that. I'm no expert, but in the Catholic and Protestant churches I attended before I became JW, I saw MUCH less (albeit some) gossiping. I never saw this when studying, as JW's tend to be on their best behavior around budding converts. Had I known about the gossiping while I was studying, it would have disproved one of their key arguments as to why they are the true religion. Think about it.

  BTW: I have never been to a congregation where some portion of the elder body did NOT drink heavilly. Drinking alcohol is the one vice JW's are allowed (barring intoxication, of course). There is a thin line between enough, and one too many. Anyone who drinks in public regularly, can slip up. And they often do.

  losing weight must be # 1 on the list for most people.

  monitor wise, my new year resolution is 1280 x 1024.... how about you, did you think of anything you'd like to change as the new year unfolds?

  Sorry to dissapoint you all but i am only here to "make a reply" to the one who is taunting me, I will not get mixed up in your beliefs and disbeliefs, you can not eat at the table of God and the Demons. its one or the other. You may like demonic food but i find utter distaste in it. Thats why I deleted most of your messages on my guestbook because they were unfit for others to read. I gave up my life for Jehovah, i'm not going to give up my soul for satan!

  Gee, Dmac . I understood the logic of your wanting to "make a reply." I even admired you for it. You stood up for your beliefs without loosing your cool. But now you are posting new topics? I think that we demon inspired ones have now got you right where we want you . Seriously, though. You are merely fanning the flames by continuing to stay here. Don't think I'm trying to discourage you from posting or lurking. Of course you will lurk, as someone said yesterday. That is a given. But you have contradicted at least one of your earlier statements by posting new topic. And as far as comparing your inteligence to another poster:

  Well, it seems you have indeed lost your cool. More than this, you are playing on their level, one you profess to be superior to. It makes your arguments seriously lacking in credibility.   I remember when we would have one of our very regular special needs parts, or when a WT article would mention it, all eyes would shift to this one middle aged single pioneer sister, and her facial expression wouldn't show the slightest notion that she took any of this personally. She was a nice person, but I hated her. I would always just walk away when she started gossiping to me or in my presence. Of course she was only one of many.

  I don't celebrate holidays, and other "reformed JW" things about me........

  while i don't agree with the wt's views on shunning, blood transfusions, or how they conduct themselves, i can honestly say i wouldn't celebrate holidays even if i felt like it.

  maybe it's that i've been brought up jw, i dunno.

  halloween is sort of fun, but i know of it's pagan origins.

  Ha, Dustin! I remember (and wore) the Flavor Saver, as did a few of the bolder young ones in my cong. It drove the elders nuts, but to my knowledge, nothing was ever said. As far as dressing up, it got to a point where I missed meetings simply because I didn't want to. Sometimes I'd wear a polo and wool slacks. It was uphill from there.
